iPhone17 Emergency Production Increase## Report: Apple Requests 40% Boost in iPhone17 Daily Output

Tech media outlet The Information reported on September 19 that, after better-than-expected pre-orders of the standard iPhone 17, Apple asked one of its main suppliers, Luxshare Precision, to raise daily production of the standard model by about 40%. Some non-electronic parts suppliers were also told to raise daily supply by about 30%.

At the start of 2025, Apple expected the standard iPhone 17 to make up 25% of total production, with Pro and Pro Max models at 65%, and the iPhone Air, sitting between the standard and Pro, at 10%. But the new adjustment shows that more buyers are choosing the lower-priced model instead of the higher-priced Pro.

Analysts say the 5,999 RMB standard iPhone 17 now offers features once limited to high-end models: a ProMotion display, an advanced camera system, and Center Stage for the front camera. These upgrades greatly improved its value, attracting more regular consumers.

The standard iPhone 17 is performing especially well in China. Since the iPhone Air is not yet on sale, and government subsidies give a 15% discount on electronics under 6,000 RMB, Apple set the price at exactly 5,999 RMB to qualify. This policy has directly driven up demand in China.

At Apple’s September event “It’s Glow Time,” the company promoted the iPhone Air as a “non-Pro Pro,” meant to make buyers hesitate. But since the Air’s price is close to the Pro, some customers may instead choose the cheaper but upgraded standard iPhone 17.

The media noted that Apple adjusts production almost every year based on pre-order data, so it is too early to say which model will sell best in the end. Still, the strong sales of the entry-level model may give Apple new ideas for future product strategy. (Source: ITHome)
